6 Pillars of Health

The six pillars of health are Eat Well, Sleep Well, Move More, Love More, Reduce Stress, and Find Your Purpose. These pillars are the base of a healthy lifestyle, and each one plays an important role in our overall well-being.

  • Eating a healthy, balanced diet is essential for good health.

  • Sleep is very important for our physical and mental health. Getting enough sleep each night helps us feel rested and refreshed, improves our mood, and helps us stay focused and alert.

  • Regular physical activity is important for maintaining good health. It can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases, improve our mood, and increase our energy levels. Exercise can also help us maintain a healthy weight, build muscle, and improve our overall fitness.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with family, friends, and loved ones is essential for good health. Social support can help reduce stress, improve our mood, and promote a sense of belonging and connectedness.

  • Stress is a normal part of life, but too much stress can have negative effects on our health. Chronic stress has been linked to a range of health problems, including heart disease, depression, and anxiety. Finding ways to manage stress can help us feel calmer and more relaxed.

  • Having a sense of purpose can give us a sense of direction and meaning in life. It can help us stay motivated, focused, and engaged in our daily lives.

Medications for mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease

Treating the symptoms of Alzheimer’s can help provide people with comfort, dignity, and independence for a longer period and also helps their caregivers.

Several medicines may be prescribed for Alzheimer's disease to help slow down the decline. Medications may also be used to treat mood/behavioral symptoms.

Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors

These medicines increase levels of acetylcholine, a substance in the brain that helps nerve cells communicate with each other. They may be prescribed by a GP on the advice of a specialist, or by GPs who have particular expertise in their use.

There are other medications used for moderate or severe Alzheimer's disease suitable for those who cannot take or are unable to tolerate AChE inhibitors.
